Jason Arday, a former University of Cambridge professor who was at the centre of a plagiarism scandal, has been found dead, British media reported on Friday.
Arday, who was 37 when he became Cambridge’s youngest black professor in 2023, resigned after he came under intense media pressure during weeks of allegations about plagiarism in his academic work and questions surrounding claims about his athletic and fundraising accomplishments.
The Times and Telegraph newspapers, along with the BBC and Sky News, reported that Arday, 41, was found “unresponsive” inside a home in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon (London time). …
In resigning as professor of sociology of education, Arday wrote in a statement that “the relentless accusations, speculation and public commentary have taken a profound toll on me and on those I love”.
He said his stepping down should not “be mistaken for an acceptance of the narratives that have surrounded me”. He has denied plagiarism, but admitted to some mistakes when working on his doctorate.
The article mentions only the plagiarism (easily proven), but omits his many fantastic stories, or — more importantly — the culture of DEI , virtue-signaling and anti-white racism that enabled him to be promoted and advanced over more accomplished people. In former times, this would have been considered an honorable exit from a situation in which one has utterly disgraced oneself.
Today, I fear, it will only produce a major chorus of “You were all so MEAN to him!”.
In an ideal world, this would trigger a wave of copycat suicides by DEI hires who can no longer live with the shame of their existence. Alas, we won’t get that.
Incredible moral standard on display here. If a non-White person frauds their way into power by stealing other people’s work, you are obliged to facilitate their fraud forever lest the consequences of being exposed cause them pain.
This seems to be uniformly the response of leftist accounts on here to Arday’s death. You can’t have civilization with these people.
If Jason Arday were a white middle-class academic, he would not have been hounded by the British press in the way he was.
If Jason Arday were White someone would have called him out for blatantly plagiarising his academic work sooner and he would have never become a Cambridge professor.
There also would have been more scrutiny of him claiming he ran 30 marathons in 35 days with a fractured fibula.
The tragic aspect of this is that there is no way Mr. Arday concocted this ridiculous persona entirely on his own. He almost certainly had a considerable amount of assistance in doing so, and everyone who “helped” him bears at least some responsibility for his fate.

They weren’t mistakes. They were lies. Lies that would have stopped ANYONE who wasn’t a DEI poster boy from advancing this high in academia.
It is tragic but this is what happens when you allow a complete breakdown of reality, meritocracy, and truth because the perpetrator of the fraud was of a “marginalized class.” It was precisely the token racism of the white progressives that allowed this to happen. The blame lies with them for creating the ecosystem that permitted for this debacle to take place. There is no freedom without personal agency, without a sense of individual dignity and earned merit. Once you allow people to game the entire academic enterprise due to your progressive and enlightened suicidal empathy, it leads to ugly outcomes. May he rest in peace.
Cambridge University knew perfectly well the pathology of a chronic liar under this kind of pressure.

When I left the US for my job in Germany, I sold my little row house to an old professor who had been forced out of his position because the racism brigade had canceled him for some trumped-up bizarre reason. I invited him to dinner on one of my last nights in America to show him how the place worked, and he was a broken man – looking over his shoulder, thanking me for everything, timid. I felt just terrible. I made Königsberger Klopse in my open kitchen while he sat at my table and spoke bitterly to me about his experience and how the diversitarians had besieged his classes and harassed him at his office, how he couldn’t continue. I saw the tears in his eyes. I feel nothing about Arday’s death. I feel absolutely nothing.
On how giving people positions they are not qualified for is not doing them any favors, how it is false charity:
It makes everything worse, because they know they’re these pet diversity hires and they totally resent it. Many of them are so dumb they can’t keep up with discussions in committee meeting and the like, and if you try to explain or help them that’s racism too.
The only person with blood on their hands here is Jason Arday. He was offered numerous chances to resign quietly when his lies were exposed, and instead he decided to attack the reputations those who exposed his lies by calling them racists.
He quite literally did it to himself
