The Handmaid’s Tale was a warning about Islam.
The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood, published in 1985, set in a totalitarian theocracy that replaced the United States. Following a military coup and a severe environmental crisis that caused widespread infertility, the regime enslaves fertile women, known as Handmaids, to bear children for the ruling elite.
Demonstrators dressing as handmaids are sending a visual warning that women’s rights, particularly reproductive autonomy, are under severe threat and that society risks sliding into a dystopian future where women are reduced to their reproductive capacity. The costume, featuring red cloaks and white bonnets, symbolizes state control over women’s bodies and serves as a stark protest against legislation restricting abortion and other women’s rights

The obvious riposte, which apparently escapes lefties:

They dress up as Handmaid’s Tale characters to warn America about Christianity…
Meanwhile, many actual Islamist governments enforce laws controlling women’s dress, marriage, sexuality and public behavior.
Maybe protest the real thing instead of cosplaying the fictional version.
So imagine my surprise and laughter when I discovered this yesterday from Gavin McInnes:
Crazier still: [The Handmaid’s Tale] WAS written about Islam. Atwood was disgusted by what the Muslims were doing to women during the Iranian revolution [in 1979] and she imagined that happening here.
The left dispute the point, naturally, claiming Atwood wrote it about Christianity. But other virtue-signalling lies account for the confusion:
After 9/11 and during the backlash to the Canadian Press’ “War on the Burqa” campaign (around 2006) [Atwood] rescinded her previous statements and claimed it had always been about radical Christianity instead.
So, the Handmaid’s tale is a warning about what would happen if Islam took over America.
Could it happen?
