Criminalizing Islamophobia and homophobia might be next. By Sarah Ison in The Australian.
Labor’s most senior Muslim MP has declared the government is open to criminalising hatreds like Islamophobia and homophobia after the antisemitism bill is passed …
In the wake of Labor’s hate speech and gun reforms being publicly released, … Multicultural Affairs Minister Anne Aly confirmed the government was open to extending protections against antisemitism to “other types of hate”.

The unprecedented hate speech legislation due before the parliament next week does not in its current form capture Islamophobia or other forms of religious discrimination, instead focusing on racial vilification and banning extremist groups such as the neo-Nazis and radical Islamic group Hizb ut-Tahrir.
ASIO chief Mike Burgess told a parliamentary committee scrutinising the legislation on Tuesday that Hizb ut-Tahrir had adopted an “insidious strategy” to escalate tension in society and issued a stark warning against groups conflating Israel with Jewish Australians at risk of inciting violence.
“(Hizb ut-Tahrir) is just an example of a group that will claim that they’re talking about the Middle East and only Israel,” he said. “But when they’re talking about Israel and rising up against Israel, and even though they’ll say it’s a peaceful rise, in this environment where people are conflating the nation of Israel with Jewish Australians, it is driving permission for violence in our society.”
Solving humanity’s oldest problems!
In the face of looming criticism from the Greens and other progressives over the bill’s failure to capture other forms of bigotry, Dr Aly vowed to consider the matter once the current bill is passed.
“No one in Australia should be subjected to any type of hate,” she told The Australian.
What, not even Labor’s opponents? That would be a miracle. Left wing politics only works by unifying its disparate supporters in hating some group or person (e.g. Trump and his MAGA supporters).
