Our ‘evil’ forebears shot starving and diseased koalas because they were in plagues. The more they shot, the more young survived. Koala plagues increased until leaves frizzled in the Federation Drought. They were supposed to be extinct in NSW by 1930.

Koalas are suffering disease and being incinerated, attacked by dogs and hit by vehicles because there are too many. They are migrating into suburbia.

We could reinstate healthy and safe forests with low densities of koalas by mild burning. People and koalas would be much better off.
