The news above might not be as good as it first appears, however. In the first waves, no one in South Africa had any immunity towards covid. Now that omicron has arrived, most (60%?) South Africans have already had covid, and many take ivermectin or are vaccinated.
Omicron is displacing delta and other variants, so maybe covid is mutating towards being just another flu. Might take a while yet though, and the next dominant variant might be worse.
