Hugely popular American podcaster Joe Rogan has been duped by a satirical Australian ad, calling it ‘dumb propaganda’.
The joke ad was made as part of a regular segment on the ABC’s panel show about advertising, Gruen, hosted by comedian Will Anderson, and mentions Rogan.
From 0:50 to 1:22:
[The ad shows] a man on the ground choking after an allergic reaction. A woman attempts to help him using an EpiPen, the auto-injection tool that can help someone experiencing anaphylaxis.
But the man starts asking the woman a series of questions about the effectiveness of the pen. ‘What’s in it? How long has it been researched for?’
As he begins to expire, he asks, ‘What does Joe Rogan say? Call Joe.’
The ad’s clear message encourages people to listen to science on Covid vaccination, rather than the claims of commentators such as Rogan.
On seeing the satirical pitch, Rogan thought it was a genuine ad.
‘Not only has Australia had the worst reaction to the pandemic with dystopian, police-state measures that are truly inconceivable to the rest of the civilized world, but they also have the absolute dumbest propaganda,’ he wrote on his Instagram account.
But soon afterwards the post was amended with a clarification: ‘EDIT: apparently this is not a real ad. It’s from a satirical show.’
CEO of Paper Moose Nick Hunter told Daily Mail Australia the agency’s phone had been ringing since Rogan’s blunder.
‘It’s totally delicious that he would misunderstand the point of the ad,’ Hunter said….
Loopy misinformation in the US right about Australia:
He is one of a number of American commentators who have criticised what they see as Australia’s draconian response to control of the pandemic.
In August Rogan told his listeners, ‘There’s some crazy s**t going on right now where the army is trying to keep people inside in Australia.
‘They have full-on government lockdowns where the government is flying helicopters over the streets (and telling people) “go back in doors, you’re not allowed to be outside”, which is crazy.’
Last month conservative US commentator Candace Owens suggested the US military invade Australia to free its people ‘suffering under a totalitarian regime’.
On her Daily Wire TV show, Owens asked when the US should ‘deploy troops to Australia’.
‘When do we invade Australia and free an oppressed people who are suffering under a totalitarian regime? When do we spend trillions of dollars to spread democracy in Australia?’ she asked.
At least in our democracy we count the votes accurately 🙂
