U.S. health officials warned Tuesday that the burgeoning coronavirus is certain to spread more widely in the country at some point, even as their counterparts in Europe and Asia scrambled to contain new outbreaks of the illness.
“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen — and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a call with reporters.
According to the figures at the excellent map and summary at John Hopkins University, which include the Chinese statistics, the number of deaths (2,760) is running at just under 10% of the number of recoveries (30,000). That looks like decimation.

The World Health Organization, whose job it is to stop a global pandemic, has repeatedly insisted that preventing stigmatization and keeping borders open is critical, to the point where they seem more concerned about that than actually stopping the pandemic.
The WHO is run by someone who probably owes the Chinese bigtime, so WHO might just be saying what the Chinese Government wants it to say.
