“It’s time to flick the switch. We need to show the benefits that greater diversity will create for everyone – for individuals, for teams, for organisations, for the profession.”
So there are going to be more dumber but female engineers. Their courses will have to be dumbed down so they can pass, so all engineers will be less well educated. At work, some will complain loudly when they are passed over for promotion, crying “sexism.” But at work they will also be less satisfied than other engineers, because they won’t understand what’s going on as well, and will find the work more difficult.
Suggestion: treat people as individuals, rather than members of (identity) groups. Allow entry on the basis of individual merit, not group membership. Radical? Not in winning societies.
Meritocracy is part of the magic package that made the West great, the broke the shackles of humanity’s tribal Malthusian existence for the first time in history. But no, our lefty types know better and are re-tribalizing our societies.
What are the benefits of diversity, exactly? The main beneficiaries seem to be the political organizers who harvest the votes of favored identity groups. But is society better off?
A merit-based nation trumps diversity-based tribes any day.
