A Blunder of Epic Proportions

A Blunder of Epic Proportions, by John Hinderaker.

Regular readers know that I am a fan of President Trump, and more often than not, a fan of his use of social media. But today he committed the worst unforced error of his presidency, one that we will hear about from the Democrats from now until November 2020.

I assume Trump is talking about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Squad,” and I share his low opinion of those ill-informed leftists. And no doubt he had in mind Ilhan Omar when he referred to “countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe,” etc. His description certainly applies to Somalia. …

This is the headline in my home town paper, the Minneapolis Star Tribune. It will be the same in every newspaper across the country:

Note that the Associated Press accuses Trump of “starkly injecting race into his criticism of liberal Democrats.” But Trump didn’t say a word about race. It was the AP that starkly injected race into the controversy. Which, of course, doesn’t excuse the single stupidest act of Trump’s presidency.

Massive blog response in the US.

Glenn Reynolds:

This is barely even 2D chess. Trump is pointing out that these “it” girls are ungrateful asses who don’t like America. By not naming them, he’s forcing their defenders, and his critics, to admit that they’re ungrateful asses who don’t like America before they can even talk about the issue. This isn’t hard.

But if you want more, there’s this way of putting it: All the Democrats have to do is not be crazy, and Trump’s making it impossible for them to do that.

Bookworm:

He’s doing the typical Trumpian thing of saying aloud what sane people have been thinking to themselves but have been too cowed to say. In other words, he’s pushing the Overton window back towards a more normal understanding of immigration and gratitude.

Bob:

The Standard Pussified Republican Response (SPRR) is to say nothing or apologize or maybe prattle on about “diversity” or “inclusion.” Trump don’t play dat….he says what we ALL are thinking, and….we LOVE IT. Ridicule these America hating Marxist Progs all…day….long. Drive their noses into the shit they laid on the carpet.

God Bless Trump. Finally a Republican with a pair.

Severn:

The people stripping naked and running on to the battlefield are all the retarded neverTrumpers. …

Most of “right-wing media” acts like a false-flag operation being run by the left.

What exactly is supposed to be so objectionable or incorrect about what Trump wrote?

Steve Skubinna:

This is obtuse. Trump has thrown gasoline on the fire, that’s all. Now defenders of Pelosi have to deal with finding Trump in their corner, so what do they do, throw Nancy under the bus?

The only thing he could do to improve on this is to give weapons to both sides and wall them in.

But honestly, what’s so bad about the question? You came here as refugees. You chose to become a citizen. You are given the privilege and honor of serving your fellow citizens as a representative, and you keep telling us all how horrible we are. You keep screaming how racist and exploitative your new country is. Why did you want to be a citizen here in the first place. You have choices. Go back to where you came and improve that great place if you think this place sucks. What’s so controversial about that?

A few days ago an ICE center in the US and the attackers raised the Mexican flag over it. Increasingly there is no attempt at assimilation, just colonization.
