Boris Johnson’s hopes of making a successful challenge to British Prime Minister Theresa May have suffered a blow after his wife reportedly left him over claims of persistent philandering.

The former Foreign Secretary and his QC wife Marina, both 54, are now living separately after 25 years of marriage and no longer socialise as a couple, according to The Sun newspaper.

The split comes after fresh allegations Mr Johnson, the former Mayor of London, was seeing another woman. The couple’s marriage has been put under strain a number of times over Mr Johnson’s affairs, most notably with writer Petronella Wyatt, who claimed she aborted their unborn baby and with art consultant Helen Macintyre, with whom he had a child.

This will probably end his challenge, leaving Theresa May to stagger on.
