Sarah Sanders, asked point-blank by CNN’s Jim Acosta to do so, did not say that the press is not the “enemy of the people,” as President Donald Trump has claimed.
“You read off a laundry list of your concerns about the press and then things that you feel were misreported but you did not say that the press is not the enemy of the people,” Acosta said. “I think it would be a good thing if you were to state right here at this briefing that the press, the people who are gathered in this room right now, doing their jobs every day, asking questions of officials like the ones you brought forward earlier are not the enemy of the people. I think we deserve that.”
But Sanders did not do so. “It’s ironic, Jim, that not only you and the media attack the president for his rhetoric when they frequently lowered the level of conversation in this country,” she said.
Ms Sanders, appearing to read from prepared remarks, responded with a critique of the press for resorting “to personal attacks without any content other than to incite anger”.
“The media has attacked me personally on a number of occasions, including your own network, CNN,” she told Mr Acosta, who walked out of the briefing in protest.
Listen to what she says about the press. Trump and his team must feel under siege, but at least they fight back. Globalist pressure on them is intense.
God bless Sarah Sanders in putting down Jim Acosta from CNN. Remember how they insulted her at the correspondents dinner and made it very personal. Nicole Wallace from MSNBC did call for the choking of Sarah Sanders. The liberal press did do that. See the ugliness and hatred. Is there a Christian amongst them?
Sarah Sanders is the first press secretary to require Secret Service protection from the uncivilized behavior of left wingers.
If Jim Acosta wants to go after her again he should realize that she is more than a match for his paper thin intellect. Good job Sarah.
As far as I have been able to determine from a modest amount of Googling, President Trump has never said that the press is the enemy of the people. On every occasion I am aware of, he has said that the “fake news press” is the enemy of the people, or specific Democratic Party news outlets like CNN are the enemy of the people. When he is riffing in public, Trump often speaks imprecisely, so it is possible that sometime, somewhere, he has said without qualification that the press is the enemy of the people. But I think anyone who pays attention knows that he is talking about the Democratic Party’s press auxiliary–the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, the Associated Press, and so on.
Earlier today, Resister Jim Acosta, who has devoted his life to scurrilous attacks on President Trump, demanded that Sarah Sanders disavow her boss by declaring that the press is not the enemy of the people. On such occasions, bitter partisans like Acosta always clothe themselves in the supposedly neutral garb of the journalist. At this point, I don’t think anyone is fooled.
