Woman charged with terrorist act after alleged Melbourne stabbing, by AAP.

Victoria police have urged the public not to retaliate, after a woman dressed in a burka allegedly stabbed a man in his home in an Islamic State-inspired terror attack in Melbourne’s north.

Momena Shoma, 24, allegedly stabbed the 56-year-old in the neck while he was asleep at his Callistemon Rise home in Mill Park yesterday afternoon.

Ms Shoma travelled to Melbourne on a student visa on February 1 and was renting a room at the man’s home while studying. …

She was arrested at the scene and charged with one count of engaging in a terrorist act. …

At a press conference, Acting Deputy Commissioner Guenther said Shoma had allegedly become “self-radicalised”, and urging the public not to retaliate against the Bangladeshi community in Melbourne. …

“We will allege that the incident is stand alone, Islamic State inspired and designed to cause harm to the Victorian community.” …

“We will allege before court that she’s … been inspired by the doctrine of ISIS. When that kicked in, when that radicalisation actually occurred, is a real focus of the investigation.”
