Donald Trump: don’t blame China for taking advantage of the US, by Michael Bender.
In Beijing on Thursday, Mr Trump spoke in unusually conciliatory tones during joint appearances with Mr Xi, hailing their “very good chemistry” while also expressing hope for forceful action from Beijing.
Mr Trump blamed past US administrations, rather than Beijing, for what he described as a “very one-sided and unfair” trade relationship, adding, “but we’ll make it fair and it’ll be tremendous to both of us.” …
“It appears Trump opted to publicly play down US-China differences, praise the Chinese people for what they have achieved, and give Xi Jinping face,” said Bonnie Glaser, an expert on China at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. …
Mr Trump also had a tougher message on North Korea. “All responsible nations must join together to stop arming and financing — and even trading with — the murderous North Korean regime,” he said.
As he has done many times before, Trump wins simply by … stating the truth. Radical.
