The nation’s capital has … one same-sex couple per 179 residents. In Sydney the ratio is one to 198 and in Melbourne it is one to 219.

While the gay communities in Sydney and Melbourne are prominent in inner suburbs such as Erskineville, Newtown, Redfern and Collingwood, same-sex ­couples in Canberra are spread across the city, living in family-oriented neighbourhoods as much as trendy ones.
