The dead hand of NBN nobbles Australian download speeds. The Speedtest Global Index shows that in mobile, Australia has the sixth fastest download times, at 45 Mbps. But in fixed broadband, it is 53rd, at 24 Mbps.

The NBN has crowded out and chilled investment in fixed line broadband, and Australia is way behind. But in mobile, where it’s been left to the market, Australia is right near the top of the table.

Exactly as theory predicts. Markets beat big government, even though the government solution is so “efficient” because duplication is eliminated.
