Just days after US President Donald Trump called for NATO allies to boost military capabilities in Afghanistan, New Zealand’s government confirmed troop numbers will grow by 30 per cent.
It means New Zealand Defence Force’s involvement will be increased from 10 personnel to 13 – all of whom are non-combatants.
When birth rates were higher, families could more easily bear the pain of losing a son to war — losing a child isn’t as bad when you have six children as when you have only one or two. But with today’s small families, the political pain of any losses is too great.
Contrast this with Muslims, especially Palestinians, some of whom bring their children up to die in “battle.”
