Trump defiant on Charlottesville unrest: ‘Blame on both sides’, by AFP (mainstream/left media).
US President Donald Trump sparked another political firestorm Tuesday when he doubled down on his initial response to the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville that ended in bloodshed, saying there was “blame on both sides.”
The Republican president — who one day ago solemnly denounced racism and singled out the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazis as “criminals and thugs” — also hit out at the “alt-left” over the weekend melee.
Trump has faced days of criticism from across the political spectrum over his reaction to Saturday’s unrest in the Virginia college town …
In a rowdy exchange with journalists at Trump Tower in New York, Trump made clear on Tuesday that he was fed up with continued questioning about the issue.
“I think there is blame on both sides,” Trump said. ..
“You had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that, but I’ll say it right now,” Trump continued.
“What about the alt-left that came charging… at the, as you say, the alt-right? Do they have any semblance of guilt? (…) There are two sides to a story.” …
On the political left, the president’s words were met with indignation.
“Charlottesville violence was fueled by one side: white supremacists spreading racism, intolerance & intimidation. Those are the facts,” said Tim Kaine, a former Democratic vice presidential candidate and senator from Virginia.
If not for Trump, consumers of mainstream media would not even be getting a peep at the truth. The media lies of omission on this incident are awesome; they are an affront to honesty. The media will only accept the narrative that evil right wingers caused violence and ran someone over, which justifies tarring all non-PC people with that brush and further pushing them out of public life.
The march was over the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, a white confederate leader. Around the US, why are only statues and paintings of white guys being removed? For instance, the Martin Luther King holidays and statues are celebrated or left in place. This is an act of cultural domination and intolerance. That the protesters of the removal were then outnumbered and beaten up by left-wing thugs is par for the course in the USA today — witness Chicago, Berkeley and Seattle in the last year. Worse, the police are ordered by their political bosses to stand by and not interfere — not to do their job of protecting people, but instead allowing the antifa thugs to beat up the non-PC protestors. None of this is mentioned on, say, the local ABC news.
So if this keeps happening, the non-PC people can only get angrier and more desperate. When is real violence going to erupt? It is gradually escalating. At Charlottesville some protestors were carrying guns, but fortunately none were brandished or fired. But one hothead used a car to drive into a crowd (though the circumstances and provocations are not yet established). At the each stage of the escalation the media will only report that it was their cultural opponents who caused the violence, and their allies were innocent.
The left is driven to ever more extreme acts by competitive virtual signalling, and because they are protected by a biased media and friendly political bureaucracy. So you can be sure the situation will get worse, and there will be further escalation, before it gets better.
I’m glad Trump corrected his announcement of yesterday, when he only blamed the right. The left came for a fight, and beat up the supporters of the statue. They deserve blame, by name, from the President.
As for the incident with the car that killed someone, I am suspicious — simply because every one of these US stories except the Dylan Roof shooting that have been trumpeted by the media as an example of perfidy by their cultural opponents has turned out to be crucially wrong when the facts eventually came out. Trayvon Martin, frathouse rape, hands-up-don’t-shoot, Duke rapes– they all became incidents used by the left to justify their cultural excesses, such as outlawing confederate flags, but in each case the media’s narrative was fundamentally untrue.
Meanwhile left wing excesses –such as the recent shooting of five Republican congressmen by an anti-Trump nut or the gratuitous shooting of several policemen last year — are not used as an excuse to crackdown on the fake news from the media or to outlaw Black Lives Mattter.
Another cohort of people who get some of their news from the Internet are now more aware that the media are misleading them with their omissions. The credibility of the media sinks ever lower.
President Donald Trump insisted on Tuesday that left- and right-wing extremists became violent during a weekend rally by white nationalists in Virginia, reigniting a political firestorm over U.S. race relations and his own leadership of a national crisis.
Trump, who drew sharp criticism from Republicans and Democrats for his initial response, reverted on Tuesday to his position that both sides were at fault for the violence, a day after bowing to pressure to explicitly condemn the Ku Klux Klan, neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups.
Appearing angry and irritated, the president maintained that his original reaction was based on the facts he had at the time. Blame, he said, belonged on both sides.
“You had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that, but I’ll say it right now,” Trump said, referring to right- and left-wing protesters.
From there, the back and forth with reporters turned tense.
“Not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch,” Trump said of the participants in the deadly protest. “There was a group on this side. You can call them the left … that came violently attacking the other group. So you can say what you want, but that’s the way it is.“
Trump’s press conference, which annoyed the media so much because he kept pointing out what the media insists on omitting — that the leftist protestors were violent.
He asks where the statue-taking-down stops? George Washington was a slave-owner, do we take down his statues?
Trump Tells the Truth, and the Press Goes Crazy, by John Hinderaker.
In the AP’s telling, the antifas were just “protesting” the white supremacists. No mention of fighting, no reference to baseball bats. …
There is no inconsistency between neo-Nazis being criminals and thugs and antifas sharing the blame for the violence in Charlottesville. They are criminals and thugs, too.
The AP wants us to believe that Trump’s statements were a disaster. His aides “stood in silence,” John Kelly “crossed his arms and stared down at his shoes,” Sarah Sanders “looked around the room trying to make eye contact with other senior aides.” And “[o]ne young staffer stood with her mouth agape.”
The AP never questions, however, that what Trump said was true. In fact, it was indisputable. The antifas, a fascist group that has also rioted at Berkeley, Seattle and other places, typically wears black clothes and masks, arms its members with baseball bats, ax handles and 2x4s, and often attacks random people on the street. Its behavior in Charlottesville was not much better than usual. New York Times reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg tweeted, “The hard left seemed as hate-filled as alt-right. I saw club-wielding ‘antifa’ beating white nationalists being led out of the park.” …
Who, exactly, brings bats and clubs to a demonstration? …
Why does the press go crazy over a statement by President Trump that is patently true? “[T]here is blame on both sides.” Because left-wing violence is becoming a prominent feature of our political scene, and the Democratic Party press wants to cover it up. Murderers inspired by Black Lives Matter have attempted to kill, and in several instances have actually killed, policemen. Antifa fascists, doing their best Nazi brownshirt imitation, have rioted in cities around the country, smashing windows and attacking passers-by. And, of course, Democratic Party activist and Bernie Sanders campaign worker James Hodgkinson attempted to assassinate Congressional Republicans, grievously wounding the House Majority Whip, Steve Scalise.
This violence is unhelpful to the left-wing cause, so reporters and editors suppress references to it. They were delighted to have an opportunity to report, for a change, on right-wing violence perpetrated by James Fields. And they don’t want truth, or any sort of nuance, to get in the way.
This is, I think, a winning issue for President Trump and his allies. Any time the Democrats scream, “You can’t say that!” the best policy is to go on saying it.
