How often has all or part of a major city been locked down following the accidental death of a citizen on whom a refrigerator fell? The obvious answer is: never.

Yet the predominantly green-left ABC Q&A audience ­laughed approvingly and presenter Tony Jones said nothing when a panellist, American theo­retical physicist Lawrence Krauss threw the switch to fridges last Monday. Following a discussion about what Krauss acknowledged was Muslim terrorism, he declared: “You’re more likely to be killed by a refrigerator, in the United States, falling on you.”
