A POLICEMAN was killed and three people injured after an AK47-wielding gunman opened fire in central Paris.
A 39-year-old attacker – identified as Karim C. – was shot dead by police following the “terror attack” at the central boulevard of the Champs-Élysées, which ISIS have claimed responsibility for.
The attack comes just three days before the start of the French presidential election, and sparked calls for voting to be suspended.
Two police officers were ‘seriously injured’ in the attack and officials confirmed a ‘female foreign tourist’ was also wounded. …
[The suspect] was previously jailed for 20 years for shooting at cops in 2003, after being caught driving a stolen car – but was released early.

“It was a terrorist. He came out with a Kalashnikov and started shooting, but he could’ve shot us on the pavement and killed more people with a spray of shots — but he targeted the policemen and fortunately there were the policemen who killed him.” – one witness to French media. …
A witness identified only as Ines told French television station BFM that she heard a shooting and saw a man’s body on the ground before police quickly evacuated the area where she works in a shop.
“We had to hide our customers in the basement,” Choukri Chouanine, manager of a restaurant near the site of the shooting, told AFP, saying there was “lots of gunfire.”
A Paris resident says the gunfire that erupted on the French capital’s famed Champs Elysees shopping district sent scores of tourists fleeing into side streets, reports AP.
