Sulforaphane: Reduces mortality, benefits include anti-cancer, anti-depression, anti-autism, and behavior-altering, by FoundMyFitness. This is cutting edge science research, not health advice. For the aficionados — it’s a bit heavy.
Sulforaphane is a powerful member of an entire family of compounds known as isothiocyanates. These compounds are formed when members of the brassica family of vegetables, known as cruciferous vegetables, are crushed, chopped or chewed. …
Sulforaphane is cheap. In spite of the fact that sulforaphane may be one of the most potent health-enhancing compounds in existence, no one is keeping it out of your hands! There is no $1,000 per pill markup. This is because of a very important discovery that happened back in the 1990s: the precursor to sulforaphane, glucoraphanin, was found in broccoli sprouts at levels ranging from 50 to 100-times higher than what is found in mature broccoli florets.
All it takes is around 6 glass mason jars to yield 3 pounds of broccoli sprouts per week at about 8 ounces of fresh sprouts per jar. $25 worth of broccoli seeds will create many, many pounds of extremely healthy greens for weeks. That’s a real bargain and, in some ways, may make broccoli sprouts a “health equalizer” of our times because it could be accessible to almost anyone, no matter what their income level is.
And broccoli sprouts are way nicer and easier to eat than broccoli 🙂
