Donald Trump defends call with Taiwan’s president after risking major diplomatic dispute with China, by Barney Henderson.
Donald Trump spoke with the president of Taiwan on Friday in move that risked a diplomatic row with China and was a major departure from decades of US policy in Asia.
Beijing firmly views Taiwan as part of a single Chinese nation and the US and Taiwan have not had formal relations since 1979.
It is thought that no US president or president-elect has spoken with a leader of Taiwan for 37 years, after the US implemented a “One China” policy. …
PC outrage ensured. Trump tweeted:
China says no country may talk to Taiwan, which is sort of like political correctness — telling us what we can and cannot say. (Another eerie similarity with PC: China’s government also has a Marxist background.)
