Turnbull’s mojo working overtime as Labor shoots itself

Turnbull’s mojo working overtime as Labor shoots itself, by Jennifer Oriel.

The Coalition is mastering the Trump technique; the substance of Right politics combined with strategic counter-attacks on the PC Left that reframe the debate. …

Labor and the Greens have used the divide and conquer technique in the past to weaken the Coalition by dividing it into progressivists (good) and conservatives (bad). This week, the tactic of isolating conservatives for attack did not bear fruit. When conservative Immigration Minister Peter Dutton was mobbed by the Left for criticising Malcolm Fraser’s careless approach to Muslim immigration during the 1970s, Malcolm Turnbull did not fall for flattery about his relative progressivism. Instead, he defended Dutton without reservation. …

Conservatives once responded to PC mobbing by castigating their politically incorrect colleagues and apologising for causing offence to whatever minority chose to take it. The era of conservative appeasement is over. In its place is a conservative front on the offensive. …

The political Right has learned the art of framing an argument and the power of strength in unity. It has realised the key tactics of the political Left: divide and conquer by appeal to pride (you’re a “good” conservative) or prejudice (he’s “far Right” and you’re guilty by association); appeal to emotion not reason; use false categorisation (for example, secure border policy is a type of xenophobia); draw conclusions from false premises (xenophobia results from secure borders); depict double standards as a universal virtue (affirmative action for some means equality for all); employ diversion and distraction (minority politics matters more than record high national debt); and reframe the argument until you own it.

If the Coalition can keep the momentum by fighting fire with fire, it will become a force to be reckoned with.

Perhaps the decade of tactical supremacy of the left in Australia will be over soon? The conservatives have the ABC-led media solidly against them, but that’s no excuse for the weak-minded tactics the conservatives have been practicing.

Donald Trump has shown clearly what to do. To oppose the PC crew, you have to take on PC directly and without apology. If you have a position then state it and defend it, without trying to ingratiate yourself with the PC media. Do not try to be reasonable or to compromise with the PC crew, because they only play you for a fool and give away nothing but contempt. Point out the media bias to the audience.
