The Simpsons and the Two-Party System. In a 1996 episode of The Simpsons, evil reptilian aliens Kang and Kodos dress up as Bob Dole and Bill Clinton and run for president by way of taking over Earth. Homer arrives in the nick of time to reveal that the candidates are really horrifying monsters. As the crowd screams, one of the aliens cries triumphantly: “It’s true! We are aliens! But what are you going to do about it? It’s a two-party system! You have to vote for one of us!” The crowd murmurs disconsolately: “He’s right! It is a two-party system!”
