It is a common myth that the volume of mostly Northern, lower income citizens is the root cause of Britain quitting the EU after securing 59 per cent of the vote – but this has now been disproved on Newsnight.
Startling polling data shows 53 per cent of Brexit backers were middle class and 52 per cent were from the South, according to Lord Ashcroft statistics.
The revelation has prompted Oxford Professor and social geographer Danny Dorling to say: “The Brexit vote has been unfairly blamed on the poor. … There’s no solid reason for Brexit but it’s not a North/South divide or a rich and poor thing.”
