Dozens watched woman stabbed to death, man attacked, at north Queensland hostel: attacked shouting “Allahu Akbar”, by the ABC.
A 21-year-old woman was killed and a 30-year-old man was critically injured in the attack which took place in front of about 30 people at Shelley’s Backpackers in Home Hill, south of Townsville, late on Tuesday night.
Both victims were British citizens.
It is alleged the suspect, a 29-year-old French citizen, used the Arabic phrase “Allahu akbar” both during the attack and his arrest, Queensland Police Service Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said.
The ABC articles go out of their way to explain that the Frenchman had “no ties to Islamic State.” However, they haven’t given us his name or a photo, or any indication of what culture or religion he comes from. Wouldn’t want to tell us the whole truth, would they? Patronizing elitists.
Another mystery. Another attacker yelling ‘Allahu Akbar’. The ABC acts dumb.
A British newspaper has better coverage, but still no more clues to the attacker’s identity: Terror at Queensland hostel: Knife-wielding French tourist screaming ‘Allahu Akbar!’ kills female British backpacker, 21, and leaves man critically injured in rampage, by Louise Cher.
A French man screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’ went on a stabbing rampage at a backpackers hostel in north Queensland, killing a 21-year-old British woman and leaving a British man, 31, fighting for his life in hospital.
A third man, an Australian, received non-life threatening wounds and was released from hospital soon after the attack on Tuesday night, police said.
The attacker, 29, also stabbed a dog to death during the frenzy that was witnessed by a roomful of more than 30 people at Shelley’s Backpackers on Ninth Street in Home Hill, about 1,300km north of the Queensland capital of Brisbane. …
Emily Waters, a British woman who was staying at the hostel, said she was horrified by the attack. ‘All my friends literally had to stand and watch the poor girl get murdered. I literally can’t believe it,’ she wrote on Facebook. …
The French man, who has been in the country a temporary visa since March, was also caught on police body camera shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ as he was being taken into custody.
