The growing number of people sleeping rough in cars, couch surfing or in temporary accommodation is alarming support services across Australia.

Charities say they’ve never seen homelessness like this and blame the gentrification of the inner city for rooming house closures, rising rents and unemployment.

While the most visible homeless people are on the streets of the CBD and inner suburbs, areas further out are struggling to cope.
