Spanish workers sacked for failing to turn up for 15 years

Spanish workers sacked for failing to turn up for 15 years, by Graham Keeley.

Two Spanish council staff have been sacked for failing to turn up to work for 15 years.

No one appears to have noticed the absence of the driver and gardener until the human resources department inspected staff records at Jerez de la Frontera council, in Andalusia, southern Spain. Officials found both workers had collected their pay but … neither had done a day’s work in 15 years.

Asked about their absence, the men, who have not been named, said they had used time allotted for union activities, which meant that they did not have to go to work.

Employees of government. Much less likely to happen in private companies, of course.
