Kristof’s ‘Confession of Liberal Intolerance’, by Jonathan H. Adler. Starts with an admission of the obvious:
New York Times columnist Nichols Kristof:
“We progressives believe in diversity, and we want women, blacks, Latinos, gays and Muslims at the table — er, so long as they aren’t conservatives”
“Universities are the bedrock of progressive values, but the one kind of diversity that universities disregard is ideological and religious. We’re fine with people who don’t look like us, as long as they think like us. . . .”
If politically correct university culture hates us so much, why should we fund universities?
The university’s ideological tilt, combined with its intolerance, cannot but place higher education in an even more precarious place. After all, how long will taxpayers in red states be willing to subsidize universities that appear to be their ideological enemies?
In a politically polarized nation, why subsidize the other side?
