Dutch journalist ‘free but forbidden to leave’ Turkey after criticising Erdogan.
[Prominent Dutch journalist ] Ebru Umar, a well-known journalist of Turkish origin, said she was arrested at her home in Kusadasi — a resort town in western Turkey — early on Sunday and brought before a judge.
She later said she was “free but forbidden to leave the country”.
Last week she wrote an article in the free newspaper Metro criticising a Turkish consular official in the Netherlands for asking all Turks to report incidents of insults against Mr Erdogan in the country. Umar called Mr Erdogan a “dictator” in the article.
On her official Twitter account, Umar tweeted overnight: “Police at the door. No joke.”
PC apologists take note: this is where your freedom to undermine your own culture will go once you’ve succeeded.
