Are we seeing a Rotherham in Australia? In the English town of Rotherham (as in other towns in the UK) over a thousand young non-Muslim girls as young as 11 were raped by Muslim men for over a decade, but complaints to the police and other authorities were ignored because the later didn’t want to be seen as “racist.” (Regular viewers of the ABC News will have heard lots about Rolf Harris, but might have missed their one short report on Rotherham.)
According to Josephine Cashman, chair of the Indigenous Advisory Council’s Safe Communities Committee, an identical situation is occurring in Australia’s remote Aboriginal communities:
There are many examples I’ve come across where the police will not intervene to protect women because they are concerned with cultural issues.
