North Carolina passes “Bathroom Bill”, Left goes nuts, Google Ventures refuses to invest

North Carolina passes “Bathroom Bill”, Left goes nuts, Google Ventures refuses to invest. The state legislature of North Carolina just passed a bill that bans individuals from using public bathrooms that do not correspond to their biological sex. This prevents biological men using the women’s locker room, and vice versa. So, no male genitalia in a girl’s locker room.

The move enraged civil liberties groups and Democrats in the state, calling it discrimination against LBGT people. Sarah Preston, acting executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, called it

…an extreme bill that undoes all local nondiscrimination laws and specifically excludes gay and transgender people from legal protections.

Legislators have gone out of their way to stigmatize and marginalize transgender North Carolinians by pushing ugly and fundamentally untrue stereotypes that are based on fear and ignorance and not supported by the experiences of more than 200 cities with these protections

State Rep. Graig Meyer, a Democrat:

When I arrived home tonight, my wife told me that one of her former students visited her at school today. The student told her that he now identifies as a transgender male. She loves this student. Today’s discriminatory law puts his health and safety at risk. It’s been a long time since I cried myself to sleep.

Google Ventures’s CEO has pledged not to invest any money in the state until the law is repealed. More than 100 corporate executives have added their names to a letter delivered to North Carolina’s governor on Thursday calling for the repeal of the nation’s first state law limiting bathroom options for transgender people, representing Hilton, Marriott and Starwood hotels, AirBnB, Uber, Lyft, American Airlines, Bank of America, Citibank, TD Bank, PayPal, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, Levi Strauss, IBM, Apple, Intel, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, eBay, Twitter, and YouTube (which indicates this is more a class thing by CEOs with elite educations like the PC leaders, rather than promoting the direct economic interests of their companies).

Previous reports by the Wentworth Report here and here. The bill in North Carolina passed the state House 82-26 and the state Senate 32-0, with Senate Democrats walking out and not voting in protest. Doesn’t democracy matter any more?

Michelangelo Signorile in the Huffington Post writes that the bill is

… the most heinous, homophobic, transphobic law we have ever seen.

Is there any rhetorical room left for her to describe Sharia law?
