US commentator Karl Denninger points out that “at its core, a declaration of war is a statement that the border of a nation is invalid and the people of the invading nation have the right to cross and take up residence, consuming the resources, of the invaded nation.”

The burning of Trump effigies is a further assertion that “[the US] border is invalid and that Mexicans have the right to cross same and occupy our land”, and therefore, he reasons, tantamount to a declaration of war (though obviously not by the Mexican government).
