Big Man vs. Nerd. Steve Sailer identifies two modes of manliness:
- Big Man — hunter/warrior/jock/leader. More people-oriented, tend to focus more broadly but shallowly (multitasking).
- Nerd. More “object-oriented,” and tend to focus more narrowly but deeply (single-tasking).
Nerds lack the “situational awareness” that the Air Force prizes in fighter pilots, but their ability to concentrate obsessively makes them good at designing the planes that pilots fly.
