TRUMP AND THE KKK: The latest “outrage” is that Trump failed to reject or disavow an endorsement from David Duke, the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, despite being asked about it repeatedly.
However Trump blames it on a faulty earpiece: “I’m sitting in a house in Florida with a very bad earpiece that they gave me. And you can hardly hear what he was saying.” Trump later said he didn’t understand which groups CNN was asking about. “And frankly, he talked about groups. He also talked about groups. And I have no problem with disavowing groups but I’d at least like to know who they are”
In any case, there are real problems here with the media:
- Why don’t the media ask the leading Democrat about racist groups Black Lives Matter and the Black Panthers (the latter with a history of violence)? Democrats are never asked to disavow leftists.
- No matter how Trump answers, the media will smugly conclude that Trump “is a racist”.
Most voters intuitively recognize this, so it will probably do little to undermine his support.
