PC witch-hunt of Cardinal George Pell, climate change “denier”

PC WITCH-HUNT:  Cardinal George Pell: more sinned against than sinning, by Frank O’Shea. This article in the Sydney Morning Herald is curious because it appears in one of the more PC media outlets in Australia. It decries the mob that is hunting of George Pell on the obvious grounds.

[T]he strident common tone of the media treatment of Pell should be a signal to people to wonder whether we are being manipulated. When all public commentary seems to agree on something, it is a duty of those who do not take their opinions from the media or from shock jocks to raise a small squeal of protest. …

What I find disturbing is the widely held assumption that his motives were mercenary and unethical, a view that seems to be unchallenged. Any attempt he makes to say otherwise is mocked or shouted down. We don’t know what his motives were, but we are encouraged to assume that they were ignoble. …

George Pell is like the biblical scapegoat, banished to the desert for the sins of his own organisation.

As it happens, George Pell has spoken out several times against the carbon dioxide theory of global warming. Anyone who has done that has been treated unfairly and mercilessly by the PC mob. There is no mention of global warming in this affair, but the PC people hold the carbon dioxide project very close to their hearts. Or maybe it’s just a coincidence.
